Big Lebowski, as a chick, birthing a monster - now that's a cult classic to be.
Quite simply Antibirth is basically your standard alien-ish/demonic pregnancy set-up, a Rosemary's Baby revisited if you will. I struggle to think off the top of my head the last one of those I saw, but it certainly is a neat little genera. Natasha Lyonne (she plays Lou and is also in Orange is the new Black) is brilliant and channels this wonderful female Big Lebowski vibe - shit just happens to her and she just rolls with it. I must note that at no point in the movie is she drink-less, cigarette-less or bong-less. It's really quite astounding. Chloe Sevigny also shows up as her BFF/partner in crime. Gotta love how she shows up in such unexpected places.
The movie moves pretty fast (you don't even have to wait the full 9 months for Lou (Natasha) to get full-term!!) but the plot is a little hard to follow at times (how is she pregnant? why? what's up with gang?) However, that doesn't really matter, I was mostly concerned with thoughts of 'wow, that looks like the shittest town ever to live in' and 'duude, compared to her, I really feel like I have my shit together) and a fair bit of 'that's disgusting'. So, all in all I really enjoyed it and it's definitely a feel-good movie, but feel-good in the sense of 'my life really ain't so bad'. Of course I won't give it entirely away but the thing she (anti) births is quite wonderful. Can't wait to watch it again in a couple of years.
I sense this could be a really great 'let's get fooked up' movie (ie. do what she does, when she does it).
I've also maybe found my next year's Halloween costume (go me!)
